Congressman Dan Meuser has won re-election to represent Schuylkill County in the House of Representatives.
Meuser turned back a spirited campaign by Pottsville native and Schuylkill County resident Rachel Wallace. He won the vote in all 12 counties that encompass the sprawling 9th District of Pennsylvania.
As of 11 p.m., with only Schuylkill and Luzerne counties’ votes outstanding, Meuser held a 62-38% advantage over Wallace.
In a statement released to Coal Region Canary, Meuser says, “I am deeply grateful for the overwhelming support of the people of Pennsylvania’s Ninth District and the trust they have placed in me to continue representing them in Washington. Once again, voters in the 9th Congressional District have rejected the failed ideology of authoritarian socialism and reaffirmed the values Americans have spent 250 years defending: freedom, opportunity, and the promise of the American Dream.
“To everyone across the Ninth District, thank you for your confidence. I will continue to fight for you with courage and conviction, and work every day to continue to earn the trust you have placed in me. It is a privilege to serve you. May God bless you, and may God bless the United States of America.”
In a statement released on her X account, Wallace writes, “Tonight, the voters of PA-09 made their decision. While we didn’t get the results we hoped for, I’m still so damn proud of this campaign. I’m proud of the work we’ve started, the people we’ve brought together and all that we’ve done. Thank you again for being part of it.”
Meuser’s victory comes on a bad night for Republicans nationwide. The party is expected to lose majority control of the House of Representatives, according to AP projections.
