Three Schuylkill County residents have been jailed and are facing criminal charges after Pottsville police said they broke onto a W. Market St. property and entered a residence in late July.
John Sadusky, 58, and Karen Lieberman, 65, both of Pottsville, are charged with third-degree felony criminal trespass. Christian Norman, 32, of Saint Clair, is charged with misdemeanor receiving stolen property, misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, and summary defiant trespass.
According to police, officers responded shortly before 1:30 p.m. on July 31 to a report of a breaking and entering in the 400 block of W. Market St. The property owner reported that someone had cut through a locked chain-link fence at the rear of the residence to gain entry and that a man was sleeping on the back steps.
Upon arrival, officers say they found Norman asleep on the steps. Norman consented to a search of his person and a nearby bookbag, where officers reported finding a wax packet stamped “Yosemite Sam,” cotton swabs, a syringe, a red pen tube, and two DeWalt power drills. Police believe the drug paraphernalia is often used to inject heroin or fentanyl. The property owner identified the power drills, valued at approximately $190 total, as belonging to him and taken from inside the house.
At the property owner’s request, officers searched the interior of the residence for additional trespassers. Police said they located Sadusky inside the building and took him into custody. While officers were inside, Lieberman also entered the property. The property owner informed police that no one was permitted inside or on the property.
All three were committed to Schuylkill County Prison after failing to post bail following their respective arraignments.
Sadusky was arraigned Sept. 6 before Magisterial District Judge Edward Tarantelli, who set bail at 10% of $10,000. Norman was arraigned Sept. 16 before Magisterial District Judge James Reiley, who set bail at $15,000. Lieberman was arraigned Sept. 17 before Judge Reiley, who set bail at 10% of $5,000.
Preliminary hearings for all three defendants are scheduled for Oct. 5 before Judge Reiley.
