A Schuylkill County man is accused of threatening to kill his ex-girlfriend and shoving her to the ground during a walk through Ashland last week.
Elijah Kane, 23, of Ashland, is charged with terroristic threats with intent to terrorize another, a first-degree misdemeanor, along with simple assault and harassment in connection with the July 29 incident.
Ashland Police say they were dispatched shortly before 8 p.m. that evening to the area of Middle and 17th streets for a report of a woman who had been assaulted, police say. A man who called 9-1-1 told officers he was driving by when he saw a woman who appeared to be injured and distraught. He said he stopped and spoke with her, and that she told him she had gotten into an altercation with her ex-boyfriend.
Officers found the woman with a bump and a small laceration on her forehead, along with multiple lacerations on both elbows and her left knee, police say. None of the injuries appeared to be actively bleeding.
The woman told police she had been walking with Kane, her ex-boyfriend, to Turkey Hill in Ashland, where Kane consumed a large amount of Four Loko and became aggressive. She told police Kane directly threatened to kill her multiple times, saying matter-of-factly, “I’m going to kill you.”
As the two walked, a distance opened up between them, and that is when Kane walked toward her and shoved her to the ground with both hands, the woman told police. She said that is what caused her injuries.
The woman initially declined EMS assistance, but officers had an ambulance dispatched anyway. Medics treated her at the scene. She refused to be taken to the hospital but told officers she wanted to press charges.
Officers took the woman to the Ashland police station so her injuries could be photographed, then drove her home. Officers then went to Kane’s Walnut St. residence, where a family member told them he was inside.
Kane came outside and an officer explained why police were there, police say. Kane said nothing had happened and continued to say he did not do anything. He was placed under arrest.
Kane was arraigned late that night before Magisterial District Judge Stephen Bayer, who set bail at $10,000 unsecured.
A preliminary hearing is set for Aug. 19 before Magisterial District Judge Edward Tarantelli.
