A Schuylkill County man is facing charges after State Police say he grabbed his girlfriend by the neck and struck her with small American flag poles during an argument over a set of keys.
Gurney Wolff Jr., 48, of Tremont, is charged with one count each of simple assault, a second-degree misdemeanor, and harassment, a summary offense, in connection with the July 25 incident.
A Trooper was dispatched around 11 a.m. that day to a home in the 200 block of W. Main St. in Tremont for a report of a physical domestic dispute.
The victim told police that Wolff, her boyfriend, had gotten into a verbal argument with her over him having her keys. She said he threw the keys at her face, then grabbed her by the neck and shoved her onto a couch. She told police he then picked up small American flag poles and struck her with them.
The Trooper reported seeing red marks around the victim’s neck. The victim told police her airway was not cut off when Wolff grabbed her.
Tremont EMS was summoned to the scene, and the victim was taken to a hospital for reasons unrelated to the incident, police said.
The Trooper then went to the 100 block of W. Main St. in Tremont, where he made contact with Wolff. Wolff told police he went to the victim’s residence after she demanded her keys back, and that he grabbed the keys, which were hanging up, and tossed them to her. He said the victim began to yell at him and then grabbed him, ripping his shirt and causing small cuts to the back and side of his neck. Wolff also told police his phone left his hand during the interaction and struck a wall, damaging the phone.
The Trooper reported observing small cuts to the back and side of Wolff’s neck.
Wolff was arraigned July 25 before Magisterial District Judge Stephen Bayer, who set bail at $10,000 unsecured.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 27 before Magisterial District Judge Christian Lengel.
