A Schuylkill County man is facing domestic assault charges following an alleged incident over the weekend.
Police in Pottsville say they were called shortly after 1 a.m. on June 20 to a home on First Ave. in the city. At the scene, police say they could hear banging and commotion from inside the home.
Contact was made with both occupants. The female inside told police that Vincent Angelo, 27, had assaulted her. Angelo, who police say smelled of alcohol, told police that the two hadn’t been getting along and they were verbally arguing.
Upon further investigation, police say the woman claimed she locked herself in a bedroom to separate herself from Angelo and to call 9-1-1. That’s when Angelo allegedly broke through the bedroom door and struck the woman in the upper chest area.
Police say the woman showed signs of redness and injury to her lower neck and upper chest.
Angelo was charged with simple assault and harassment and taken before Magisterial District Judge Stephen Bayer, who released him on $10,000 unsecured bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for next Monday before Judge James Reiley in Pottsville.
