A Schuylkill County man was jailed this week after police say he had indecent contact with a 4-year-old child on multiple occasions.
Steven Harmer, 30, of Minersville, is charged with third-degree felony counts of indecent assault of a person less than 13 years of age, corruption of minors, and endangering the welfare of children. He is currently being held in Schuylkill County Prison after failing to post $100,000 bail.
On Feb. 22, police were dispatched to contact a woman regarding a past incident. The woman told police that approximately two years ago, Harmer had inappropriate contact with the child, who was 4 years old at the time, at a residence in Saint Clair.
The woman told police she recently became aware of the allegations after she found the victim and another child acting inappropriately for their age. When she spoke with them, the victim disclosed the past contact with Harmer, the woman told police. The woman also told police that a previous 2024 investigation by Schuylkill County Children and Youth Services into the matter had been deemed unfounded.
Police say a forensic interview was conducted with the child on March 23 at the UPMC Child Advocacy Center in Harrisburg. During the interview, the victim stated that Harmer touched her inappropriately, police say.
The child told interviewers the incidents occurred over her clothing in the basement of a residence.
The victim allegedly said the contact happened “a lot of times, every time that I was sleeping,” police say. The child also told interviewers she never spoke to Harmer about the contact because she was too scared.
