A Schuylkill County woman was jailed and is facing domestic assault charges after police say she repeatedly struck and slammed her daughter during an argument over household chores.
Nicole Finken, 46, of Pottsville, is charged with second-degree misdemeanor simple assault and a summary offense of harassment. She was remanded to Schuylkill County Prison on Sunday after failing to post 10% of her $15,000 bail.
Police in Pottsville say they were dispatched just before 8 p.m. that night to a report of a domestic dispute that had occurred at a residence on John O’Hara St. The alleged victim, Finken’s daughter, was waiting to speak with police at a nearby business.
According to police, the victim told them a disagreement with Finken over doing the dishes started via texts and escalated into a verbal argument at the residence.
While the two were in the kitchen, the victim told police the argument became physical when Finken slapped, scratched, and punched her in the face multiple times.
Finken then allegedly pinned the victim against the counter, wrapped her arms around her, and slammed her into objects in the kitchen, police say. The victim told police she pushed Finken away, injuring her own right hand in the process.
Police say the victim displayed scratch marks on the left side of the neck and signs of injury to both sides of the face which caused pain and redness. The victim was taken to a nearby hospital for further evaluation.
A witness at the residence provided an account of the incident that was consistent with the victim’s reports, police say.
Later that day, police say they made contact with Finken at a separate address on John O’Hara St. and took her into custody without incident. Police say Finken admitted to slapping and holding the victim.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 22 before Magisterial District Judge James Reiley.
