A Schuylkill County man is facing charges after police say he tried passing a turning school bus with 13 students aboard last month, struck it, and then fled the scene.
The crash occurred at about 8 a.m. back on May 29 along Nuremberg Rd. in East Union Township, State Police say in a report released Friday night.
Michael Jevelle. 39, of Ringtown was driving a 2015 GMC 1500 north on Nuremberg Rd. behind the school bus. As the bus, driven by a 58-year-old Drums woman, attempted to make a left turn onto Cove Mountain Rd., police allege Jevelle tried to pass the bus on the left. The pickup struck the bus, causing moderate cosmetic damage to the bus’s entire left side and moderate front right damage to Jevelle’s vehicle.
Police say Jevelle fled the scene following the collision but was later located and identified.
Multiple passengers, including children ranging in age from 5 to 12 from Ringtown and Zion Grove, were on the bus at the time of the crash. Neither the passengers, Hildebrand, nor Jevelle reported any injuries.
Police say Jevelle faces criminal charges related to the crash. Court records indicate those charges have not yet been filed.
