A Schuylkill County man previously charged with hundreds of state-level felonies related to illicit media files is now facing a federal indictment.
Andrew Moyer, 48, of Minersville, was indicted by a federal grand jury on charges of distribution, receipt, and possession of child pornography, the United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania announced today.
The federal indictment alleges Moyer distributed and received child pornography in Schuylkill County between April 27-30 and possessed child pornography on May 6. The case was investigated by the FBI’s Allentown Resident Agency and the Minersville Borough Police Department and is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Tatum R. Wilson.
At the local level, Moyer faces 600 felony charges for allegedly possessing and distributing child sexual abuse material. At a preliminary hearing last month, all 600 state charges were waived to Schuylkill County Court of Common Pleas.
Minersville police initiated the investigation on May 6, responding to Moyer’s residence on North St. following a report from a witness representing the group Predator Poachers-Long Island.
According to police, the witness said he’ ha’d been communicating online with Moyer, who allegedly believed he was speaking to a 13-year-old girl. The witness told officers he confronted Moyer and a partner recorded the interaction.
Police contacted Moyer, who gave written consent and the passcode to search his phone. Authorities reported Moyer admitted to having 500-600 images and videos of child sexual material on the device.
An initial search of the phone’s recently deleted folder revealed a video of that nature, police said. Police reported finding additional child pornography that Moyer allegedly received and distributed via messaging apps, estimating the files depicted children ranging from ages 5 to 13.
Through conversations observed on the device, police stated Moyer has purchased, sold, or distributed sexually explicit materials involving minors since 2023. Moyer is still being held at Schuylkill County Prison on $75,000 bail.
