A truck driver in Schuylkill County from Washington state was sent to jail last week after he allegedly threatened to punch a State Trooper in the face after waking him up from a nap.
Trooper Joey St. Cyrus says he was on routine patrol on Route 901 in Foster Township when he spotted a tractor trailer parked on the I-81 South on-ramp at about 4:15 p.m. on June 3.
The truck, St. Cyrus says, was parked near a pair of signs that instructed motorists that parking was prohibited in that area.
When St. Cyrus approached the vehicle, he says he came up on its passenger side and made contact with the driver, Aboubakar Coulibaly, 61, of Lynwood, Washington, and told him that he couldn’t park there. The Trooper says he even pointed to the signs that also indicated to Coulibaly that he couldn’t park there.
Coulibaly was not happy about being approached by the Trooper. He reportedly told St. Cyrus that he’d interrupted his nap.
St. Cyrus says Coulibaly then refused to hand over his license, registration, and proof of insurance. Instead, the driver allegedly told St. Cyrus that if he didn’t get off the side of his truck, he’d punch him in the face. Coulibaly then punched the passenger seat inside his truck, the Trooper says. He was then ordered to get out of his truck but initially refused.
St. Cyrus says he then dismounted from the side of the truck and called for backup. At that point, with more Troopers at the scene, Coulibaly complied with orders and was taken into custody.
The driver was arraigned on misdemeanor charges of making terroristic threats, obstruction, and disorderly conduct as well as a summary violation for parking illegally. Magisterial District Judge James Reiley remanded Coulibaly to Schuylkill County Prison on $15,000 bail, which was posted the following day. A preliminary hearing before Judge Christian Lengel is scheduled for July 2.
