A former Schuylkill County man was arrested earlier this month in Houston, Texas, and extradited back here on Monday.
Robert Montgomery, 66, formerly of Pottsville, is being held without bail in Schuylkill County Prison after his arraignment today before Magisterial District Judge Edward Tarantelli. He’s facing a felony charge of failing to verify his address.
Police say Montgomery was taken into custody in Houston on an active warrant by Pottsville Bureau of Police. Montgomery, police say, failed to update his address after he was initially released from Schuylkill County Prison. In 2022, according to court records, Montgomery was sentenced to 328 days to 23 months in prison after pleading guilty on a receiving stolen property charge in Mahanoy City. He then moved to Texas.
Montgomery was convicted of second-degree sexual assault in New Jersey on Oct. 22, 1992. He began registering per the rules of Megan’s Law in Pennsylvania in 2021.
In a statement on his capture, Pottsville Bureau of Police thansk the New Jersey US Marshals Service Task Force, the US Marshals Service for the Middle District of Pennsylvania, the NY/NJ Regional Fugitive Task Force, and Deputy US Marshal Michael Waszen for their assistance in locating Montgomery and returning him to Schuylkill County.
