Police: Pottsville Man Was Doing 93 in a 35 MPH Zone at Time of Crash That Left Woman with Life-Threatening Injuries

Charges filed in District Court

A 22-year-old Pottsville man is facing a felony charge after police say he drove 93 mph in a 35 mph zone, causing a crash that left another driver with life-threatening injuries.

Police have requested an arrest warrant for Leudry Martinez, charging him with third-degree felony aggravated assault by vehicle, second-degree misdemeanor reckless endangerment, and summary offenses of reckless driving, careless driving, and speeding.

Police in the city say they were dispatched to the intersection of 21st and W. Market streets shortly after 9 p.m. on Saturday, March 13, for a report of a vehicle accident with injuries.

As they arrived on the scene, police found Martinez’s white 2019 Honda Accord off the north side of the roadway. Martinez had struck a gray 2023 Hyundai Tucson operated by a 29-year-old Pottsville woman, who was traveling from 21st St. onto W. Market St.

Both vehicles sustained severe disabling damage and both drivers suffered serious injuries. The female driver of the Hyundai was flown to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest Trauma Center with what police describe as “life-threatening injuries.”

A State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Specialist analyzed the scene and concluded that Martinez was going 93 mph at the time of the crash.
