A Schuylkill County woman faces assault and harassment charges after police allege she waved a pocketknife at a person during a street argument in Tremont.
Kasey Kay Keefer, 38, of Pottsville, is charged with misdemeanor simple assault and summary counts of disorderly conduct and harassment.
State Police say they were dispatched shortly after 8:30 p.m. on May 30 to North St. in Tremont for a report of a woman running down the roadway brandishing a large knife. While en route, police were informed the woman was standing outside a fuel services business on Tremont St.
Police arrived, made contact with Keefer, and confiscated a black and silver pocketknife from her.
Keefer told police she was walking down North St. holding the knife when she verbally engaged with a group of people. She claimed she was just playing with the knife and did not threaten anyone, police say.
However, a victim told police she was standing outside her residence when she heard Keefer walking down the street yelling profanities. The victim said she confronted Keefer, leading to a verbal argument in the roadway, police say.
During the confrontation, the victim saw Keefer holding the knife and alleged that Keefer waved the weapon at her, placing her in fear for her safety. Keefer then continued walking southbound.
Keefer was taken into custody and arraigned before Magisterial District Judge James Reiley. She is being held at the Schuylkill County Prison after failing to post 10% of a $10,000 bail, according to court documents. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 2. Keefer is also facing a defiant trespass charge from an incident on May 18.
