A Schuylkill County woman was jailed Monday after police say she kicked several officers in the groin and one in the face during an altercation at Walmart.
According to Saint Clair Officer Cara Kulikowsky, she and Officer Vincent Bennett were dispatched to Walmart shortly after 5 p.m. Monday for a trespassing complaint.
At the store, management told police that Lizbeth Gonzalez Marquez, 23, of Shenandoah, had been there since Sunday and refused to leave after being asked to do so.
Police say they approached Gonzalez Marquez, who was sitting on a curb near the pharmacy entrance to the store, and told her that Walmart management wanted her to leave. Gonzalez Marquez allegedly refused to do so and said she’d done nothing wrong. She was given multiple chances to leave the store property and each time refused to do so, police say, and insisted that she be taken into custody.
However, after police say they took Gonzalez Marquez into custody, she became combative, yelling “Help me!” and pulling away as officers attempted to get her in the back of a patrol vehicle. Police say they delivered a drive stun several times to Gonzalez Marquez several times but it had no effect in getting her to cooperate. She then tried to bite Kulikowsky and Bennett, police say.
Port Carbon Officer Neiko Eckley was called in for backup and Gonzalez Marquez was physically restrained and dragged into the patrol vehicle, police say. But once she was in the vehicle, Gonzalez Marquez allegedly kicked each officer in the groin and Eckley in the face, causing swelling and redness. Bennett suffered multiple bleeding scratches to his wrist and forearm, police report.
Gonzalez Marquez was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Christian Lengel on three felony charges of aggravated assault, misdemeanor counts of defiant trespass and resisting arrest, and a summary count of disorderly conduct. Lengel set bail at $75,000 and remanded Gonzalez Marquez to Schuylkill County Prison. A preliminary hearing in Port Carbon is scheduled for June 16.
