Two brothers from Schuylkill County are facing charges following a traffic stop last week.
Police in Frackville say they initiated a traffic stop on a Toyota Corolla in the unit block of S. Lehigh Ave. at about 11:30 p.m. on Sept. 14 over a headlight violation.
The driver of the vehicle – identified as Richard Ramos Jr., 20, of Frackville – refused to provide police his identification. Police say they asked multiple times.
Ramos Jr. was then asked to step out of his vehicle and again, he reporetdly ignored that request, too.
Police say they opened the driver’s door and attempted to “assist him out of the vehicle,” an affidavit of this incident reads. Officers then attempted to forcibly remove Ramos Jr. from the vehicle.
As this was happening, Ramos’ brother, Matthew, 18, who was in the back seat, allegedly reached forward and attempted to hold his sibling in the vehicle. He then reached for the ignition and tried to start the vehicle, hoping his brother would flee the traffic stop.
Backup was called in from Butler and West Mahanoy townships as well as Mahanoy City and Shenandoah.
Ramos Jr. eventually got out of teh vehicle and was taken into custody. He was identified and then released.
Richard Ramos Jr. has been charged with resisting arrest, obstruction, failing to provide his identity to police, and a headlight violation.
Matthew Ramos is charged with obstruction and disorderly conduct.
