Man Kicked State Trooper After Allegedly Kicking Doors to Enter Home in Norwegian Township

A former Schuylkill County man has been charged with aggravated assault after he allegedly kicked a State Trooper during an incident on Monday.

Troopers from State Police-Schuylkill Haven say they were dispatched to Ann St. in Norwegian Township shortly before 6 p.m. Monday for a disturbance. They learned that a man was trying to kick in the door of a property in the 800 block.

Upon their arrival, police say they saw two damaged front doors with blood smeared on them. A basement door at the rear of the property also had blood smears on it.

On the front porch of the neighboring property, seated in a chair, was Daniel Ganly Jr., now living in Lancaster but who recently resided on Ann St. Police say Ganly was disheveled, sweating profusely, and had bleeding cuts on his hands.

While police attempted to get Ganly, whom they had cuffed while they conducted their investigation into the incident, to sit on a stone wall, he resisted by continuing to stand up when he was told to sit down. As police “assisted him” with sitting on the wall, Ganly allegedly kicked one Trooper in the shin.

The homeowner of the property that sustained the damage reportedly told police that Ganly was in and out of his property all day but at one point became irate. Ganly then allegedly started yelling from outside for the property owner to come out and fight him.

The property owner declined the fight invitation and that’s when Ganly allegedly started striking the doors to get inside.

Police have charged Ganly with two counts of aggravated assault, two counts of simple assault, criminal mischief, harassment, and disorderly conduct. He was arraigned Monday night before District Magistrate Judge AJ Serina, who set bail at $25,000 cash.

Ganly was remanded to Schuylkill County Prison. A preliminary hearing for this case is currently scheduled for July 8.
