A Pottsville man is facing aggravated assault and strangulation charges after his wife said he attacked her when she tried to leave him for having an affair.
According to information released by police in Pottsville, a woman came to City Hall on June 9 at about 2:45 p.m. to report the attack. She reportedly said that her husband of 14 years, Bunnie Becker, 38, was having an affair.
She said she was trying to leave their home on Schuylkill Ave., packing her bags, when Becker attacked her. The attack lasted for about an hour, she reportedly said.
Police say they noticed numerous bruises on the wife’s body, a large laceration, and injuries to her neck. She said Becker stood on her neck.
Following the alleged assault, Becker loaded the couple’s three children in his vehicle and left the scene as a way of preventing his wife from leaving.
After receiving the victim’s report, police say they went to the couple’s home on Schuykill Ave. and arrested Becker without incident.
Becker was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Stephen Bayer and charged with strangulation and aggravated assault, both felonies, as well as a misdemeanor count of simple assault and a summary count of harassment.
Bayer set bail at $25,000 cash and remanded Becker to Schuylkill County Prison, where he remains Thursday night.
