A warrant has been issued for a Schuylkill County man who apparently lives in the woods after he allegedly drove a dump truck without permission as if he were riding a horse.
According to an affidavit filed by State Police-Frackville, Jared Hossler, 38, was spotted several times on Reading Anthracite property earlier this month.
On March 15, just after 1 p.m., police were called to coal company property in Cass Township after a security guard there allegedly saw Hossler walking on Reading Anthracite land without permission.
Hossler was told to leave but ignored that command, the security guard told police. The guard tried to stop Hossler to speak to him but he kept walking into the woods.
That guard in Cass Township told police he recognized Hossler because of an incident earlier that day on Reading Anthracite property along Mt. Laffee Rd. in New Castle Township.
The following day, police met with the security guard who spotted Hossler in New Castle Township. That guard told police he was in his office at about 11:30 a.m. on March 15 when he heard a dump truck starting and slowly pulling out of a parked position.
In the truck, the guard told police, was a man “swinging his hat around in the air as if he was riding a horse.”
The guard said he approached Hossler after witnessing this display. Hossler allegedly said he was employed by Reading Anthracite but the guard knew this wasn’t true.
That same guard encountered Hossler once more on coal lands, on March 19. The guard tells police he was canvassing the area for a campfire and ran into Hossler. Hossler allegedly told the guard he had no place to go and that he was living in the woods.
Police have filed charges of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and defiant trespass, both misdemeanors, as well as a summary offense for disorderly conduct.
A warrant for Hossler’s arrest was signed by District Magistrate Judge David Plachko on Monday.
