A step-father and step-son got into an altercation Wednesday and now face similar charges as a result.
According to an affidavit filed by police in Pottsville, the incident happened in the 500 block of E. Norwegian St. There, police say that Ricardo Vergara-Jaimes and Jose Ramirez got into an argument because Ramirez didn’t take out the trash.
Vergara-Jaimes reportedly told Ramirez to leave the apartment. Ramirez said he couldn’t leave because he’s his grandmother’s caretaker.
At that point, Vergara-Jaimes went over to Ramirez, who was sitting on a couch, and attempted to physically remove Ramirez from the apartment, police say. However, Ramirez’ mother got between the two.
Vergara-Jaimes was able to get around her and allegedly struck Ramirez and a fight ensued. Ramirez told police he was able to physically restrain Vergara-Jaimes and call 9-1-1.
Ramirez reportedly told police he struck his step-father in the nose.
Both Ramirez and Vergara-Jaimes refused EMS treatment for the injuries they suffered in the melee. They were taken to City Hall by police, arraigned before District Magistrate Judge AJ Serina on Wednesday night, and have been charged with simple assault and harassment.
