Minersville to Begin Interviews for New Borough Manager This Week

20 applicants already narrowed to 8

Minersville is set to begin interviewing candidates for the open Borough Manager job this week.

At last week’s Council meeting, Vice President Jamie Kuehn said Minersville has received 20 applications for the job. That field has already been reduced to eight people.

Interviews will be conducted by the Council’s Personnel Committee, including Kuehn, Terry Raffety, and Michael Slovick. Slovick will not be part of the interview process for “personal reasons,” according to Kuehn. It’s believed that Council President Ian Mahal is expected to take Slovick’s place during the Borough Manager interviews.

“That committee is just going to try to narrow that field down from eight and make further recommendations,” Kuehn said.

After the initial round of interviews, other Council members will likely get a chance to be part of the selection process.

The goal is to have a smaller field of candidates for the job by the time of the March Borough Council meeting.

Minersville’s search for a new Borough Manager began in November when Robert Mahalchick announced his resignation from the position after about 12 years on the job. Mahalchick stepped aside for a job in the private sector.

The borough wants to pay its next Manager between $50-70,000 based on the successful candidate’s experience level.
