A Delano man died Thursday afternoon in a vehicle crash along Morea Rd.
According to information released tonight by State Police-Frackville, the crash happened shortly after 3 p.m. near 1220 Morea Rd., Mahanoy Township.
Police say at that time, a vehicle driven by Thomas Flaherty, 65, of Delano, was headed east. At the same time, a vehicle driven by Michael Perchak, 70, of Hazle Township, Luzerne County, was going west.
Flaherty’s vehicle exited the road and struck a traffic sign along the side of the road. His vehicle then crossed the eastbound lane of Morea Rd. and into the westbound lane, striking Perchak’s vehicle, sending Flaherty’s vehicle back into the eastbound lane.
Perchak’s vehicle struck a guardrail and went down an embankment after being impacted by Flaherty’s vehicle.
Flaherty was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash by the Schuylkill County Coroner’s Office.
Perchak sustained a head injury in the crash, police say, and was taken by ambulance to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest.
