Something Called “Rain” in Today’s Forecast

We had to look up what rain was in the encyclopedia.

It’s been more than a month since we received at least a quarter-inch of rain here in Schuylkill County. That streak will likely come to an end today.

National Weather Service is forecasting anywhere between one-quarter and one-half inch of rain on Sunday.

Rain will likely begin after 4 p.m. today and continue through 2 a.m. Monday.

Winds will intensify into Sunday night, with gusts up to 22 mph possible tonight. Steady winds from 5-9 mph are expected this afternoon, as rain arrives.

This rain is very much needed but won’t put much of a dent into the severe drought conditions being experienced in Schuylkill County right now.

Most areas are about 8 inches below average for rain in the last 90 days. We haven’t received one-quarter inch of rain since late-September. The time before that was in mid-August.

Temperatures won’t move much all day Sunday either. We experienced lows in the upper-20s last night. Today’s high temperature is expected to reach 53 and Sunday night’s low is forecast at 43.

You may want to try and bottle up much of this expected rain on Sunday.

Outside of a slight chance of showers on Thursday, there’s currently no chance of rain for the rest of this week, through Saturday.
