The Walmart store in Saint Clair celebrated its grand reopening last week, following a 16-week remodel of the store.
Store management and associates gathered outside the Supercenter store on Friday morning to thank those who helped in the transition to the new-look store, to take a look back at the more than 23-year history since it first opened back in 2001, and the impact it’s had on the community it serves.
The ceremonial ribbon cutting was performed by 6 of the 9 associates at the Saint Clair Walmart who’ve been there since the store first opened on April 18, 2001. They include Janelle Yanni, Elvin Whitestone, Kathy Hamm, Tammy Stonelake, Antoinette Govern, Pat Kelchner, Barbara Langlois, Beth Devlin, and Christa Alexander (see photo above).
During the ceremony, Walmart donated $1,000 to Schuylkill Chamber Foundation and $500 each to Pottsville Area High School and Veterans of Vietnam War Post 29. Pottsville Area’s marching band opened the ceremony with the National Anthem.
Overall, since it opened at the turn of the century, Walmart says it has donated more than $1 million to the Schuylkill County community.
Walmart’s remodel includes several key improvements to the store, the company says.
It has a remodeled pharmacy and vision center, a new design and remodel of apparel areas, new vignettes and displays in the Home and Infants departments to showcase merchandise, a digital area in the parking lot with more spaces for order pick-ups, and a new location for the pets, cosmetics, stationery, and crafts departments.
Right now, Walmart employs 405 associates at the Saint Clair store.
