Port Carbon council members learned Tuesday night that another of its police officers is resigning.
Council was informed by Mayor Bucky Herndon that Nick Morgan is resigning.
Herndon told The Canary after Tuesday’s council meeting that the borough currently has no plans to replace Morgan on its police force.
Recently, the borough was informed that Tim Walsh was also resigning from its police force.
Both resignations bring the total number of Port Carbon Police officers to two. The officers are employed on a full-time basis.
The borough may be losing one of its partners in an inter-municipal police agreement, Palo Alto. Port Carbon, Palo Alto, and Mechanicsville formed an inter-municipal police agreement five years ago.
Palo Alto council members, earlier this year, indicated that they’re shopping around for new police services, believing they may not be getting their money’s worth from the current plan. So, they turned to Saint Clair and instructed their Solicitor to engage in negotiations with that borough on an inter-municipal agreement for police services.
So far, no plans between Saint Clair and Palo Alto have been finalized. Saint Clair wants Palo Alto to agree to a 10-year partnership for its police services.
