Pottsville Parking Adding 3 Safety Sticks, Moving 2 Unproductive Surveillance Devices

81 violations caught since April 30th

Pottsville Parking Authority is moving the location of two of its most unproductive Safety Stick surveillance posts and adding three more.

The Safety Stick devices at Centre and Mahantongo streets and at Tremont and E. Market streets will be moved. Combined, since going live on April 30, they’ve garnered just 2 violations, according to Parking Authority data released at its most recent board meeting.

Overall, there have been 81 violations recorded on 9 Safety Stick devices in Pottsville. That’s an average of 9 per device.

But if you remove the data from the two Safety Sticks that aren’t living up to expectations, the 7 others are average slightly more than 11 violations since April 30.

Here is a month-by-month breakdown of Safety Stick violations recorded in Pottsville:

Vehicles parked in an intersection that’s monitored by a Safety Stick get a three-minute grace period, according to the Parking Authority. After that, vehicle owners are given a $35 fine.
