A Porter Twp. home was completely destroyed by fire early Saturday morning.
Two adults and four children, plus several pets, were able to escape the fast-moving blaze along W. Wiconisco Ave., just over the Tower City line.
It took about an hour to get flames under control and several more hours to douse any hot spots that remained.
No one in the home and no firefighters were injured during Saturday morning’s incident.
A State Police Fire Marshal remained on the scene at the double-wide mobile home after firefighters from Schuylkill and Dauphin counties were clearing the scene. A cause hasn’t been determined.
Firefighters were dispatched to the scene of 134 W. Wiconisco Ave. before 7 a.m. Saturday.
According to Brandon Buffington, Asst. Chief with West End Fire Co. #3-Sheridan, the home was fully involved as his crew first arrived on the scene.
Muir Volunteer Fire Co. was next to arrive.
Immediately, crews took defensive positions against the fire as flames were encroaching on a pair of 150-gallon propane tanks nearby. Wiconisco Fire Co. members worked to keep the tanks cool and prevent them from exploding.
In addition to the conditions at the scene, Saturday’s oppressive heat and humidity presented an extra challenge to firefighters.
Buffington credited all their efforts.
“It got a little warm fairly quick,” he said. “Great group of guys and ladies that came to assist us and the other company to put the fire out.”
The American Red Cross-Pennsylvania Rivers Chapter were at the scene to provide aid to the family who lost their home on Saturday.
