Pine Grove officials have taken the first step toward hiring a borough manager.
If and when a borough manager is hired, it’ll be the first one ever to serve in that role.
Last week, Pine Grove Borough Council voted unanimously to advertise a first reading of an ordinance of the job description for a borough manager.
According to the ordinance officials approved, Pine Grove’s first borough manager would serve until the first Monday of January of the even-numbered year after they were hired.
Borough managers in the borough would then serve two-year terms after they’re hired by a majority vote of council members. Any hire could be retained after they’re initially hired.
If Borough Council wants to fire a Borough Manager at any time during their term, a replacement would be brought on to fill the remainder of that two-year term.
Pine Grove council members did not discuss a salary for their first Borough Manager if and when they’re hired.
What will the Borough Manager do?
According to the ordinance, Pine Grove’s Borough Manager would “be responsible for the proper and efficient management of the affairs of the borough, except for those duties expressly conferred by statute upon other borough officials or those duties delegated by contract entered into by the Borough Council and those duties specifically exempted by Borough Council.”
A second reading of the ordinance that creates the Borough Manager position will be voted upon at Pine Grove’s July meeting.
