Funding has been secured to complete a section of the Schuylkill River Trail in Schuylkill County.
According to a release from State Sen. Dave Argall (R-29), who represents Schuylkill County, the funding will help complete a 4.6-mile section of the popular Schuylkill River Trail from St. Clair to Frackville.
The goal is to have the Schuylkill River Trail run continuously from Frackville to Philadelphia.
Argall believes the Schuylkill River Trail in Schuylkill County can benefit economic development, namely through increased tourism.
“We’ve seen in places like Jim Thorpe and WHite Haven how these trails can breathe new life into older communities,” Argall says in a statement announcing the funding. “By completing the St. Clair to Frackville section, we’re bringing new visitors to the area.”
State Rep. Tim Twardzik (R-123), who represents both Frackville and St. Clair, says in a statement, “Beyond tourism, rail trails often promote health and wellness, provide alternative transportation routes, and can even enhance property values and community connectivity. Overall, the Schuylkill River Trail plays a significant role in enhancing the quality of life and economic vitality in northern Schuylkill County.”
