Catherine “Kitty” Welikonich, 102 – Attended to Elderly and Infirmed in Schuylkill County

Catherine “Kitty” Welikonich of Bowie, MD, formerly of Frackville, passed away on June 1, 2023.

Kitty was born on November 11, 1920, to Katie Teeley Herman and Fred Herman.

She is predeceased by her husband, John, two brothers Fred and Jim Herman, a sister Florence Phillips, a son-in-law Mickey Lee, and two grandsons Kevin Lee and Barry Hobart.

Kitty worked in the office of Ernie’s Photography Studio in Frackville. She retired from the Area on Aging as a Homemaker and Health Aide where she served the elderly and infirmed citizens of Schuylkill County.

Kitty moved to Bowie in 1997 and became a parishioner of St. Pius X Catholic Church. She was the custodian of the books in the community library at her home in Somerset Park Condominiums.

Kitty is survived by her daughters: Anna Lee of Huntsville, AL; Catherine Hobart (Walter) of Bowie; Mary Franks (John) of Newark, DE; and, Susan Welikonich of Greensboro, NC. Kitty had five grandchildren: Michael Lee (Leitha); Jennifer Brinker (Tom); Steven Franks (Ellen), Kristin Ausbon (Chris); and Alicia Gaul (Travis). Ten great grandchildren: Jessica, Andrew, Naomi, Rebecca, Jonathan Brinker; Gavin, Kyle Hobart; Nina Franks; Claudia, Marion Gaul and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass was held on Thursday, June 8 at St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church, Bowie, MD.

Interment will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 12th at Annunciation BVM Catholic Cemetery, Shenandoah Heights.
