A Pine Grove area grocery store says it was scammed twice in as many weeks by fake paychecks.
According to information from State Police in Schuylkill Haven, the alleged fraud took place on consecutive Tuesdays back in March at the BG’s Value Market on Pleasant Valley Dr. right outside Pine Grove.
Police say on March 22, Felix Romeu, 39, of Cumbola, used a fraudulent paycheck to steal more than $800, including $597.23 in cash and more than $250 in groceries from the store.
Romeu is facing a felony access device charge as well as misdemeanor theft charges related to this incident.
A week later, on March 29, police say BG’s Value Market fell victim to another fraudulent paycheck scam.
Police say Jayson Garcia, 37, of Pottsville, cashed a bogus paycheck at the store. They haven’t released details on how much the check was worth.
Garcia, however, is facing similar charges, including felony access device fraud.

What were these fake paychecks like? Did they look legit or were they printed off of someone’s home printer and accepted by some 17 cashier who didn’t know any better?
