snow squall warning schuylkill county

National Weather Service has issued a Snow Squall Warning for Schuylkill County until 1:30 p.m. The warning has been extended until 2:45 p.m.

Forecasters say several bands of “dangerous snow squalls” will move through the area until later this afternoon.

In the squalls, there’s extremely poor visibility due to snow and blowing snow. Wind gusts could reach 35 mph during the squalls.

NWS points out that at 12:12 p.m., notable squall lines were moving southeast from Beury’s Lake and McKeansburg and from Laurelton Center to Kreamer.

These squalls will likely affect travel conditions, especially on interstate highways in and near Schuylkill County. NWS says I-81 from Mile Markers 65-120 and I-78 from Mile Markers 0-8.

Also included in the Snow Squall Warning are:

  • Dauphin County
  • Northern Lancaster County
  • Lebanon County
  • Southern Northumberland County
  • Snyder County
  • Southern Union County

Weather was likely a factor in a major crash on I-81 in Schuylkill County earlier Monday.
