Light Snow and Ice Could Make Travel Tricky on Monday in Schuylkill County

It didn’t.

A weak winter storm on Monday could make traveling around Schuylkill County a bit difficult at times.

National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Schuylkill County, effective Monday at 11 a.m. until midnight.

Other counties included in the advisory area are:

  • Tioga
  • Northern Lycoming
  • Sullivan
  • Columbia

Winter Weather Advisory for Schuylkill County – December 27, 2021

Not much accumulation is expected to occur on Monday but light snow mixing with sleet and freezing rain could create headaches for motorists in the area.

Bad weather is expected to begin sometime in the morning and continue through most of the day. However, a changeover to plain rain is expected in late-afternoon.

Overall, less than an inch of snow is expected to fall on Schuylkill County Monday:

And less than one-tenth of an inch of ice is expected to accumulate. That amount could be a bit more in higher elevations where the temperature doesn’t rise above freezing for too long:

Storm Timing

According to the NWS forecast, here’s the timing of Monday’s winter storm:

  • Before 3 p.m.: Snow, freezing rain, sleet
  • 3-4 p.m.: Rain with snow mixed
  • After 4 p.m.: High temperature of 35 degrees expected, rain likely
  • Monday night: Rain mixed with freezing rain before 1 a.m. (Tuesday)

High temperatures in the 40s are expected in Schuylkill County for the rest of 2021.

On New Year’s Eve night, there’s a moderate chance of rain and snow. Rain and snow are likely on New Year’s Day.
