The future of the St. Patrick’s Day parade in Pottsville is up in the air.

On Thursday, organizers of the annual parade, posted what sounded like a dire warning about the event’s future.

The Ancient Order of Hibernians JFK Division #2 – Pottsville says through the City of Pottsville’s Annual St. Patrick’s Day Celebration Facebook page, it is “no longer in a position to do the fundraising needed to pay for insurance, bands, and other parade expenses.

“Additionally, our organization has lost several of our dedicated members in recent years who actively worked to make the parade possible.”

While much attention goes to the St. Patrick’s Day parade in Girardville, the event in Pottsville – typically held the Saturday before March 17 – draws a boisterous crowd and is a boon to local businesses catering to parade goers.

The AOH says that while it can’t organize the parade anymore, it’s ready to support any organization that tries to keep a St. Patrick’s Day parade in Pottsville going in the future.

“We would love to see the tradition of a St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Pottsville continue,” the AOH says.

It’s asking anyone who’s interested in keeping the Pottsville parade going in the future to email the organization at aohpottsville@pa.com.
