A Carbon County man died Wednesday after his vehicle crashed into a shopping plaza in Rush Township, Schuylkill County, earlier in the day.
According to information from State Police in Frackville, the Lehigh Valley Coroner pronounced 67-year-old Arnold Kemmerer, of Nesquehoning, dead some time after he arrived at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest on Wednesday.
Kemmerer was flown by Medivac helicopter there from a crash scene at a shopping center in Rush Township. Police believe, just before 3 p.m. Wednesday, Kemmerer suffered a seizure or other medical episode that caused him to drive his vehicle into a brick pillar near the AT&T and Climb-A-Lot Clubhouse businesses in the shopping plaza.
Kemmerer’s vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed and hit the pillar so hard it disintegrated, police say. Bricks were forced through windows at the Climb-A-Lot Clubhouse location. The crash happened in front of several eyewitnesses.
The Lehigh Valley Coroner believes Kemmerer succumbed to the injuries he sustained in the crash, police report.
