A New York man died on Interstate 81 near Schuylkill County on Thursday when he crashed his motorcycle.
The crash happened at Mile Marker 94.8 in Swatara Twp., near the Lebanon/Schuylkill County line. Response to the crash site forced authorities to close a portion of I-81 southbound near Pine Grove for several hours in the middle of the day.
According to information from State Police in Jonestown, 44-year-old Robert Mesec, of Plattsburgh, NY, was killed when he lost control of his motorcycle on the highway while negotiating a curve in the road.
Police say Mesec drifted from the passing lane of the highway, over the fog line, onto the rumble strips on the side of the road, and hit a guide rail. The impact tossed Mesec from his bike and he hit a guide rail, causing fatal injuries.
Mesec was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash Thursday.
