It appears Schuylkill County will escape Hurricane Henri unscathed. Mostly.
Based on the latest from the National Hurricane Center, we can only expect about a half-inch of rain from Hurricane Henri as it’s expected to make landfall on eastern Long Island, New York, or in New England sometime on Sunday.
Up to 1 Inch of Rain Possible from Hurricane Henri in Schuylkill County
On Saturday, Henri was upgraded to a hurricane as a Category 1 storm with maximum sustained winds of 75 mph.
Midway through Saturday, Henri started moving slightly east in the Atlantic Ocean. That caused the heaviest expected rainfall to shift east along with the storm.
At one point on Saturday, when Henri was slightly to the west of its current location, forecasters believed we could receive at least an inch or more of rain from Henri.
But now, as the storm continues on its path toward New York and New England, we may luck out here in the coal region and escape heavier rainfall totals.
Hurricane Henri Path Saturday Night and Sunday Morning
According to National Weather Service, Henri should track north overnight Saturday into Sunday morning. It’ll then track slightly to the northwest before making its landfall.
Additionally, there’s little chance we’ll feel any Tropical Storm-force winds here in Schuylkill County either.
Even though we’re not expected to get much rain or wind from Henri, it’s likely to be a wet Sunday afternoon because of the storm.Up to a half-inch of rain is expected. A high temperature of 81 is expected.
