Fairlane Village Mall says national retailer TJ Maxx plans to open a store there some time in 2022.
Rocco Arruzzo, the Pennsylvania regional manager at Lexington Realty International which manages the mall outside Pottsville, tells The Canary that TJ Maxx signed a long-term lease to open a store at Fairlane Village.
TJ Maxx Opening at Fairlane Village Mall in 2022
TJ Maxx won’t open until some time in 2022. Arruzzo said “mid-year” to be on the safe side as to when next year it might open. Construction on the store is likely to start this summer. And getting the store at the mall won’t be a small feat. Like other new major retailers at the mall, TJ Maxx will get its own outside entrance and will not have a mall entrance. The store will be placed right next to Michaels, at the mall’s current south entrance, where the Chinese restaurant Brothers Buffet is currently located.
Michaels and Kohl’s, two of the more recent national retail additions to the mall, each have their own outdoor entrance with no second, mall entrance.
As for Brothers Buffet, the restaurant is likely to be relocated inside the mall at the former Wells Fargo location at Fairlane Village.
When we last spoke with Arruzzo, it was early 2020 and he was excited about the future of the mall. He was on the verge of announcing 2 potential, unnamed national retailers that would be moving into the mall property.
Then, there was this whole pandemic thing and the business plans, like everyone’s business plans, changed dramatically.
The mall was closed for weeks due to business restrictions put in place by Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf. The year 2020 even claimed a few mall businesses so this week’s news was welcome for management.
“We had a lot of plans,” Arruzzo told The Canary Wednesday. “We’re still working on those plans.”
Arruzzo said he believes he may be able to make another announcement like this in the future.
