It turns out, Schuylkill County can’t go under a Frost Advisory until May 1. That’s when the growing season officially begins here.
The growing season is determined by the mean date of the last freeze for a county.
But what’s really weird is that in many places bordering Schuylkill County, the growing season starts about 3 weeks before it does here.
That’s why, on Monday morning, counties bordering Schuylkill to the south and west all went under a Frost Advisory or Freeze Warning.
But as we stated yesterday, just because National Weather Service doesn’t place Schuylkill County under a Frost Advisory because of some climatology data, it doesn’t mean people who’ve already gotten a jump start on the growing season shouldn’t be advised of the potential for frost.

Monday: ☀️ Early frost clears by 8am, revealing a sunny day with a high near 58°. Northwest wind at 5 to 9 mph.
Monday Night: 🌌 Patchy frost sets in after 2am. Clear skies with a low around 35°. Light and variable winds.
Tuesday: ☀️🌤 Patchy frost dissipates before 8am. Mostly sunny with a high near 64°. Light southeast winds shifting south at 9 to 14 mph in the morning, gusts up to 20 mph.
Tuesday Night: 🌧️ Clouds increase with a chance of showers after 2am. Mostly cloudy with a low around 47°. South wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%.
Wednesday: 🌦️ Breezy with a chance of showers. Partly sunny with a high near 59°. Chance of precipitation at 50%, with new rainfall between a tenth and a quarter of an inch possible.
Wednesday Night: 🌌 Mostly clear, with temperatures dropping to a low around 31°.
Thursday: ☀️ Sunny with a high near 56°.
Thursday Night: 🌌 Frost likely after 4am under mostly clear skies. Low around 34°.
Friday: ☀️ Frost clears before 7am, leading to a sunny day with a high near 60°.
Friday Night: ☁️ Mostly cloudy with a low around 41°.
Saturday: 🌦️ Mostly cloudy with a chance of showers. High near 59°, with a 40% chance of rain.
