4-10 Inches of Snow Expected Today

Today’s the day.

Based on the way things have gone in recent years, today would have been the day we talked about the storm that was supposed to be but never was.

That doesn’t seem to be the case today. Snow is definitely in the forecast and if it doesn’t mix much with sleet and freezing rain, we could be looking at more than a half-foot of snow before it’s all done early Sunday.

It’s the start of a pretty active weather pattern for us here in the coal region. A substantial amount of rain is already in the discussion for Tuesday and maybe another snow storm next weekend.

Here’s the latest 7-day forecast for Pottsville from National Weather Service …

Saturday: Prepare for a snowy day starting mainly after 11 a.m., with heavy snowfall possible. Expect a high near 31°. An east wind of 5 to 15 mph, gusting up to 30 mph, adds to the wintry conditions. Snowfall is certain, at 100%, with accumulations of 3 to 7 inches.

Saturday Night: A wintry mix unfolds—rain, snow, freezing rain, and sleet before 3 a.m., then a chance of freezing rain, followed by more snow after 4 a.m. The low hovers around 30°. A breezy east wind shifting north brings gusts as high as 32 mph. Precipitation probability: 90%, with 1 to 3 inches of new snow and sleet.

Sunday: Snow showers could linger before 5 p.m., transitioning to a mix of rain and snow showers. The day remains cloudy, with a high near 37°. A west wind at 5 to 10 mph accompanies a 30% chance of minimal new precipitation.

Sunday Night: Mostly cloudy conditions continue, with lows around 28° and a steady west wind.

Monday: Enjoy a mostly sunny sky, a pleasant contrast, with temperatures rising to about 38°.

Monday Night: The clouds return, with a low near 24°.

Tuesday: A mix of rain and snow is likely before 1 p.m., turning to potentially heavy rain. Highs near 43° and breezy conditions. Rain is highly likely, at 100%.

Tuesday Night: Rain expected before 1 a.m., then likely showers afterward. Lows around 41° and breezy. Rain probability remains at 100%.

Wednesday: Showers may continue until 1 p.m. Expect mostly cloudy skies and a high near 46°, along with breezy conditions. Precipitation chances at 40%.
