The National Weather Service (NWS) in State College, PA, has extended the severe thunderstorm warning for central Lebanon County and eastern Schuylkill County until 2:30 p.m. today.
At 1:56 p.m., the severe thunderstorm was identified over Schuylkill Haven, moving northeast at 25 mph. The NWS also reported additional storms to the northeast and southwest of this main system.
The thunderstorms carry hazards including wind gusts of up to 60 mph and quarter-sized hail, which can cause significant damage. The expected impacts remain unchanged, with anticipated hail damage to vehicles and wind damage to roofs, siding, and trees.
The list of areas likely to be impacted has expanded to include Lebanon, Pottsville, Tamaqua, Schuylkill Haven, St. Clair, Orwigsburg, Sand Hill, Lebanon South, Pine Grove, Port Carbon, Avon, and Fredericksburg.
Motorists are advised to be cautious, as the warning now includes sections of Interstate 78 from mile markers 5 to 8, and near mile marker 99 on Interstate 81.
