Fatal Hegins Fire Ruled Accidental
The fire that claimed the lives of a Hegins Township mother and her 4-year-old son has been ruled accidental.
According to information released Monday from State Police Fire Marshal John Burns, the fire at 1000 E. Main St. in Hegins Township started on a couch in the living of the first floor of the apartment building.
Killed in the fire were Tawnya J. Bowman, 44, and Daniel M. Bowman, 4. No other injuries were reported among the people who were able to evacuate the burning building.
First responders were initially called to the scene in Hegins after 10 a.m. Saturday. It took several hours for firefighters to get the blaze under control. Burns’ investigation reveals the building is a total loss. Damage is estimated at more than $75,000.
