Virtual Town Hall on Discrimination and Dissent Set for Sunday
As tempers flare on social media over the protests in various parts of the country, a group of local residents is hosting a virtual town hall on discrimination and dissent on Sunday, Aug. 2, from 1-3 p.m.
Leah Zerbe of Pine Grove, one of the organizers, is hoping all views of Schuylkill County residents will be represented at this event.
“Whether you’re white or a person of color,” she said, “if you’ve ever felt discriminated against, this conversation is for you.”
Zerbe feels too many of us are wasting too much energy venting on social media, which only divides our country further. “It’s time to stop typing, commenting and sharing,” she said, “and sit down for a good old-fashioned conversation.”
The goal is for people to find common ground as they hear about each other’s experiences and listen to their points of view.
