Sad news for local news junkies: One of WNEP-TV’s top anchors, Sharla McBride, is leaving the station in March.

About a week ago, McBride announced she’s leaving for WUSA-TV in Washington, DC. She’ll be a sports anchor and reporter at one of the top stations on the East coast.

For the last 4 years or so, McBride has been a co-anchor on Channel 16’s top newscasts. She’s currently working alongside Scott Schaffer on the network’s 6 p.m., 7 p.m., 10 p.m., and 11 p.m. weeknight newscasts.

“I am now taking on my most difficult challenge yet, but one that I am extremely excited about. I will soon be the newest Sports Anchor/Reporter in Washington D.C. at WUSA-TV,” McBride writes in a Facebook announcement.

McBride’s last day at WNEP will be March 6 and her last broadcast at the station will be the 6 p.m. newscast. She’s been at WNEP for the last 12 years, as she points out in her announcement.

“12 years. 12 years of laughter. 12 years of learning. 12 years of living. 12 years of covering 19 counties in Northeastern and Central Pennsylvania. Many of you remember when I first moved here…a young sports reporter, new to the state, and relatively new to this career. I was scared, but you all made me feel so welcome,” she writes. “Life is about opportunity, and when God opens doors, I believe in walking through them. I look forward to the big opportunity that awaits and promise to never forget my 4,380 days spent here in NEPA.”

I must admit i didn’t much like you as a sports newscaster when Jim Coles made you to constantly report on his Yankees and you always ignored the Mets. But watching you mature in the business for the past 12 years has been a real pleasure. Best of luck Sharla but you don’t need luck, you;re very good at what you do, you will be missed!
