The Schuylkill Hose Dive Team helped rescue a deer stuck on the ice over Owl Creek Reservoir Friday afternoon.

According to a post on the Schuylkill Hose Company #2 Facebook page, the company’s Dive Team got requested by the PA Game Commission and Tamaqua Fire Dept. just after noon on Friday, Jan. 31.

Deer Rescued from Owl Creek Reservoir Ice

After taking in the situation — the deer stuck on the ice — the dive team personnel found a spot on the shore of the reservoir to access the animal. They had to walk back a wooded path to reach that spot, lugging heavy equipment along the way.

One member of the dive team got on a Marsars Ice Rescue Sled. Here’s an example of what one looks like from the manufacturer’s website:

The diver navigated about 500 feet to the trapped animal. They attached a harness around the deer’s shoulder and torso, according to the post.

Back on shore, other members of the dive team started pulling on the harness to lead the trapped deer back to safety.

The Game Commission released the deer.
