Hundreds of Schuylkill County residents remain without electricity Thanksgiving morning as a fierce wind storm bears down on the coal region.
According to PPL Electric’s Outage Center online, power outages are reported all over Schuylkill County. The company also reports more than 1,000 without power in the Harrisburg area and nearly 2,000 in the dark in the Lehigh Valley.
The outages are likely a result of the fierce winds whipping across eastern Pennsylvania.
On Wednesday night, National Weather Service included Schuylkill County in a wide-ranging Wind Advisory. The advisory is active until 1 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day. During that time, Schuylkill County can expect steady winds between 20-25 mph. Gusts could get as strong as 45-55 mph.
Thanksgiving Power Outages – Schuylkill County
With the high winds comes the risk of power outages. It’s never a good time for a power outage but on a holiday, it’s worse. This could truly be a Thanksgiving to remember for many in the area as families consider alternate plans for dinner and guests.
Here’s a look at the current outage clusters, according to PPL Electric.
- About 88 without power just northwest of Ringtown in northern Schuylkill County
- At last 156 are in the dark around Orwigsburg
- Another 87 have no electricity just south of Tamaqua.
- Several hundred more just east of Tamaqua
There are other, more isolated, outage events mostly reported in southern and western Schuylkill County.
