After being forced to forfeit its final two games of the 2019 regular season and faced with dwindling participation in the sport, Marian Catholic High School named Stan Dakosty as its head football coach.

“After thoughtful consideration and the support of my family, I am proud and excited to return as the head football coach of Marian Catholic High School,” Dakosty says in a statement released through the school’s Facebook page.

Stan Dakosty Returns to Marian Colts Sideline as Head Football Coach

Dakosty is the locally legendary previous head football coach of the Colts. He led Marian Catholic to a state championship back in 1990 and under his leadership, Colts games were appointment football on Saturday afternoons at Men of Marian Stadium.

“As the head coach, my intent will be to run a first class program that will bring out the best of the Marian student athletes on and off the field,” Dakosty says. “I will be reaching out to the Marian Family, who have been so supportive to our program in the past, asking them to continue the support and to build upon it.”

Marian forfeited its final two games of the 2019 regular season and missed out on a shot at the District 11 playoffs in Class 1A. The Colts lone win in 2019 came a week prior to quitting the season when they beat Shenandoah Valley, 9-8.

News of Dakosty’s return to the Marian Catholic sidelines already has fans excited for the team’s return to the field in 2020.

One fan comments: “Wonderful news and even more exciting to know that more of Marian’s young men will benefit from the knowledge, pride , values and integrity that Coach Dakosty embodies. #WeAreMarian”
