Here’s a look at Schuylkill County high school football scores and highlights from Week 4 of the Coal Region Football 2019 season.

We still have another week of non-league play for the Schuylkill League teams next week so we’ll focus on the Tri-Valley Conference in the western reaches of the area until then.

Cardinals Take Back Rivalry Trophy

Collin Luckenbill scored a pair of touchdowns for Pine Grove and the Cardinals took back a beloved backyard trophy in a win over Tri-Valley Friday.

Pine Grove topped the Dawgs, 34-7, on Friday night to take back the prized West End Gridiron Trophy. The trophy goes to the winner of this annual rivalry game. And for the last four years, it’s stayed with Tri-Valley.

The win helps the Cardinals (3-1, 2-1 TVC) keep within striking distance of the top in the competitive Tri-Valley Conference.

Luckenbill got the Cardinals on the board with an 8-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. He drove the win home with a 34-yard TD scamper early in the 4th quarter to put away the rivals.
Brody Robinson, Ayden Nye, and Dalton Kintzel also found pay dirt for Pine Grove in the win.

Pine Grove appears to have gotten back on track after suffering a shock defeat at Newport last week.

Tri-Valley (1-3, 0-3) is reeling after suffering big conferences losses to Pine Grove this week and Williams Valley last Friday.

Williams Valley Outlasts Game Susquenita Team

Speaking of the Vikings, Williams Valley stared down a stiff test from Susquenita on Friday, topping them 28-14.

That win keeps Wliliams Valley (4-0, 3-0) atop the Tri-Valley Conference, in a tie with Upper Dauphin and its high-powered offense that’s been impossible to stop so far this season.

Non-League Laughers

The rest of the night for Schuylkill County football teams was rather unremarkable and slightly absurd.

Mahanoy Area Sneaks By Nativity

The only competitive matchup of the night featured Mahanoy Area and Nativity. The Golden Bears appear to be picking up some confidence as they get ready for league play. They came out on top over the Green Wave, 34-27, Friday night.

That’s the second straight win for Mahanoy Area.

Jim Thorpe Throttling Ends at Halftime

You likely won’t see this again, if you ever have before.

Jim Thorpe continued its winning ways on Friday. The Olympians are out to a fast start at 4-0 in non-league play. However, the last 3 wins have been rather lopsided including an eye-opener Friday.

Jim Thorpe went into the half over Kutztown with a … get ready … 76-0 lead.

That’s 11 touchdowns in a single half. And that was apparently enough for Kutztown. The game was called at the half.

Again, that’s 76-0.
